Every month, we hear from carers who have taken a Carefree break, and every month, their words remind us why this work matters so deeply. This month's testimonials share a common thread: the quiet, transformative power of having time and space to simply be. Whether it was a spa treatment, a solo meal, an early-morning swim, or a country walk, carers came home not just rested, but renewed.
Small Steps, Enormous Leaps
Sometimes, confidence doesn't announce itself. It builds slowly, quietly, over pot noodles eaten alone in a hotel room, then a market lunch, then a restaurant table for one.
One carer, who has now received three breaks through Carefree, described a journey of personal growth that is both moving and remarkable:

"I have received 3 breaks in total from Carefree, including this one. The first Carefree break was my first ever holiday on my own. Each break has increased my confidence. The first Carefree break, I ate pot noodles in the room. The 2nd break, my confidence increased to eating on my own in Kirkgate Market, this last break, I ate by myself in a restaurant. I can't thank you enough for these breaks and how much they mean to me." - Elizabeth, an unpaid carer who stayed at the Queens Hotel
This is what Carefree breaks make possible. Not just a night away, but a gradual, gentle reclaiming of independence, identity and self-belief.
Sunshine, Spa Treatments and Feeling Truly Worthy
For carers whose lives have been turned upside down by their caring role, sometimes all it takes is fresh air, a comfortable bed and someone else to take care of them for a change.
One carer who stayed at Belton Woods described her break as nothing short of magical:

"OMG, that two-night break did me the world of good! I stayed at Belton Woods, and it was magic. The sun was shining, the air was fresh, and everything felt just right. The rooms were comfy and clean, the food was good, and the spa treatments I booked were unreal, especially the therapists Jessica and Deirdre, who definitely deserve a shout-out. The on-site Irish pub had such a welcoming atmosphere, and the golfers there seemed to be having a great time. All in all, it was such a 'recharger' for me. I feel so lucky to have Carefree, as this break gave me happiness and made me feel truly worthy. My life has been turned upside down since October, and it's been hard to adjust, but I do it for my father. I'm really looking forward to another break later in the year and will probably visit the same hotel, as I loved, loved, loved it!"
Feeling worthy. It's something so many carers lose sight of, buried beneath the relentless demands of their role. A break can give it back.
Together Again: Reconnecting as a Couple
Caring for a loved one can quietly erode the time and energy couples have for one another. Two nights away, free from caring responsibilities, can mean the world.
One carer and her boyfriend returned from Norton Park Hotel and Spa in Winchester feeling exactly that:

"This was our second stay at Norton Park Hotel and Spa in Winchester, through Carefree. My boyfriend and I don't often get true alone time together, and so we appreciate it so much as we would struggle to afford a break away like this. The hotel is amazing, the staff are lovely, and the facilities are great. I especially enjoyed going for a swim at 6.30 am! Breakfast was lovely, and the food at the bar was nice. The hotel was nice and clean, and we hope to return again. We came home relaxed. Thank you, Carefree!"
A 6:30am swim, a proper breakfast, and time that belongs to no one but them. Simple things. Priceless things.
Country Walks, Spa Days and Coming Home Lighter
For another carer, a stay at Cheltenham Chase Hotel and Spa offered exactly the combination of activity and rest that a tired body and mind needs:

"Cheltenham Chase Hotel and Spa is lovely. We had a large downstairs room, and they included a lovely breakfast, which we really enjoyed. We also used the swimming pool, spa and restaurant. They made us feel very welcome, and we really relaxed, which was amazing. We did lots of country walks as well. I came back so much more relaxed than before I went. It really made a difference and was just what I needed."
Country air, a warm pool, good food and genuine welcome. Sometimes the most restorative things are also the most straightforward.
Treated Like Royalty
Perhaps what strikes us most, reading these testimonials, is how much it means to carers simply need to stop, to not think about their caring role, even if just for a little while.
One carer put it beautifully:

"Having time for myself is heaven. Relaxing in the swimming pool. Talking about anything other than my caring role. The hotel staff treated me like royalty, that's how it felt. All the staff were so cheerful, helpful and bubbly that it itself bucks you up."
