November is renewal month for most of our Community Partners, and this year I spent a good part of August putting together a detailed impact report for each of them. Somewhere around the tenth report, a pattern became impossible to ignore: for many partners, the value of the hotel breaks their carers received was several times what they paid for membership. In some cases it was nine times. In a few, it was twelve.
Our Community Partners are organisations that already support carers day to day: charities, councils, care providers and employers. Each pays a yearly membership fee scaled to their annual turnover. In return, they can refer the unpaid carers they support (and their own staff with caring responsibilities) to our Breaks Hub, where hotels across the UK donate rooms for short respite stays.
To put that into perspective, we now have over 60 Community Partners. Together, in the past year alone, they referred 7,165 unpaid carers, who went on to take 2,905 breaks worth £798,875 in gifted hotel stays.
A membership that pays for itself, many times over
Take one partner’s year as an example. In eleven months they referred 329 unpaid carers, who went on to take 154 breaks worth £42,350 in gifted hotel stays. For most of those carers, the alternative wasn’t a paid hotel stay. It was no break at all.
That partner is far from unique, and our partners clearly see the difference: 85% have already confirmed they’ll renew for 2027.
Behind those figures are people like Lorna, one of that partner’s carers, who told us that one night away let her feel like a person again after a period of burnout, knowing her son was in safe hands.
“It was amazing to get a night off and feel like a person again. Thank you so much. I loved every minute, just being able to do normal day-to-day things without any stress and knowing my son was in safe hands. Hopefully family will understand now how much I need this break, as I’ve been in burnout and very unwell, and it has really affected my mental health. The break was only one night, but it definitely helped loads.”

The value goes far beyond the hotel bill
The price of a hotel room is only the most visible part of the story. In 2025 we commissioned independent research from Just Economics to measure the wider social value of a Carefree break and the impact they truly have.
They found that our breaks created £16.87m in value in 2025 for carers, their families, their communities and the state, a social return of £21 for every £1 invested. That value comes from avoided care costs thanks to carers being rested and to keep caring for longer. This puts far less pressure on public services.
So when a partner's gifted breaks are worth several times their membership, that is the starting figure. The full return to the people they serve is even bigger!

A bigger offer for the year ahead
Our partners are joining a network that keeps growing. This year two new hotel groups joined us meaning that we now have over 200 hotels donating stays, with each night being worth an estimated £275 on average.
Since January 2026, every referred carer can take two breaks a year: one between January and June, and one between July and December. Partners with a small budget can also pre-purchase £38 break credits to cover the admin fee for the carers they refer, stretching every pound further.
Thank you
To every Community Partner: thank you. Each referral you make is a carer who gets a night off, a proper sleep and a reminder that they matter too. Your renewal report shows exactly what your membership achieved this year, and I hope it makes you as proud as it made me.
