BBC London recently spotlighted Carefree’s transformative impact on unpaid carers, describing the charity as an “absolute lifeline.” By partnering with hotel groups across the UK, Carefree connects carers—like Gabrielle Warner, who cares full-time for her autistic son—with short breaks in unsold hotel rooms. These moments of rest offer rare, much-needed time to recharge.
For carers like Susan Copping, who looks after her 103-year-old mother, a simple two-night break means a chance to sleep, relax, and feel human again. Carefree currently works with 14 hotel groups, using technology to make spare rooms available at no cost to carers or the social care system.
As Carefree CEO Charlotte Newman puts it, “Carers are the invisible backbone of our society. Our work gives them recognition, relief, and renewed strength.”
